Time Takes its Toll
"Repetition... a thief of time." - Jona Vark

I had my liver scan at Total Care, a new extension on the east side of the hospital.  My lung scan was performed in the original hospital, Los Alamitos.  Coincidently, this hospital also has my birth certificate on file.  I recognized the room.  It was the same room where I had my biopsy.  A little less nervous, I noticed the finer details of the room.  The machinery was a little more outdated.  Grease marks lined the top of the donut hole with so many greasy fingerprints you would have thought the SC football team had just entered through it.  Perhaps there was more to that pre-game huddle with Dr. Gedderdun.

A corner of the CT scanner was missing its plastic cover, most likely bashed with a roller bed by a careless nurse.  Pac Man looked like a half moon and no one spoke to me.  I had to stare at a numerical countdown to know when I could release my breath.  I couldn't close my eyes.  Rested eyelids provide a much more relaxing experience.  At least the laser wasn't working.

These CT scans had become routine for me.  Time had slipped away unnoticed.  The hour appointment felt like a ten minute proceeding.  I went to the stores to catch up on work from the past week.  This kept me busy until dark.  Time flew.  Dusk descended.  I realized I hadn’t received a phone call.  Repetition, unnoticed, can be a thief of time.
